Food LIfeline
Many of you know that my favorite good cause is Food Lifeline, and I've served on their board for decades. You may not know that I'm now leading the capital campaign to build a new food distribution facility that will expand Food Lifeline's capacity to end hunger in Western Washington. That means we are asking for money from everyone who can afford to give, from the Gates Foundation to Nordstroms, to you.

I'm a cook. My goal is to feed as many people as I can, whether they are sitting in my restaurants or struggling to find food.

There's enough food out there to feed everyone who is hungry- we just have to make it easier to get it to the people in need. Food Lifeline does that job, making food cheaper and easier for local food banks to get by collecting and sorting donations from suppliers across the country. It's a huge job. Last year, we distributed 36 million pounds of food, but had to leave 40 million in landfills, because the infrastructure to distribute it just wasn’t there. That's why we’re working to raise $20 million for a new distribution center here in the Seattle area.

We need your help to make this dream of a new distribution center for Food Lifeline come true. Join us for our second annual Lawn Party & Croquet Tournament on August 11 in South Lake Union. We’re trying to raise $65,000 at this event, and all of it will go to Food Lifeline. What better way to have fun in the sun than by helping us raise a boatload of money to end hunger in our community.

Cheers,

Tom Douglas
